Did you see this at fairytalemood? I wrote a fairy-tale short story set in the world of Kill Me Softly. And it’s illustrated! » link
“After the Ball” - story by Sarah Cross, illustrations by Oona Pohjolainen
Midnight arrived, on the third and final night of the ball, and Dusty’s enchanted gown started shedding flowers. (read the full story here)
I’m so excited about this collaboration! Oona and I have been working on this for a few months. We’re both fans of fairy tales, fairy tale retellings, and fashion—so what better project for us than a modern Cinderella story? After all, in the Grimms’ version, the ball lasts three nights. :)
The story takes place in Beau Rivage, a city where fairy tales come to life—the same city where my fairy tale novel, Kill Me Softly, takes place. The characters are new, though, so you don’t need to have read Kill Me Softly to read “After the Ball.”
I hope you like it!
They look so beautiful together!
I love walking into bookstores, but I always come out with books (even though I have a ton). Sunday was no different. I strolled through the aisles of Barnes and Noble and left with The Book of Blood and Shadow
and Kill Me Softly
.
I can’t wait to get to these books, I haven’t read any of Robin’s work so I’m looking forward to this one and Sarah’s Dull Boy
was a fun read, so I’m definitely looking forward to her take on fairy tale characters.
Fairy Tale Fortnight II kicked off on April 15 and today I have two fairy-tale-themed posts over at The Book Rat! Check out my guest post about “The Fairy Tale Life” and then enter the Kill Me Softly giveaway if you’re so inclined.
You can find the full schedule of posts for Fairy Tale Fortnight II at The Book Rat, Books from Bleh to Basically Amazing, and A Backwards Story (all updated daily).

Check out the interview to find out which fairy tale is my favorite, and which books I think you should consider reading next—and don’t forget to enter the giveaway while you’re there!
